Thank You

Thank you, Michael of 2007.  I mean that with my entire heart.  Thank you for leaving this message for me to find when I truly needed it.  I've slipped many times over the past year, and lost many things that were ridiculously important to me.  At points, I've felt like the emptiest of human beings.  However, so much good has come from facing the bad.  Experience has molded me into a responsible adult; something that surprises me even now : p.  All the scars I bare are my reminders of what has been, and justify who I am.  The note you left proved to me that there is still hope inside.  For all that is gone, I have so much to gain and so much more to give. Voice of the past, your wisdom gives my presence solace.

Dearest Sincerity,

Michael Evan Newsom

Michael--

What you do not seem to understand is that you are letting your own personal experience and emotions interfere with the job you need to do. Realize that you do not have to compromise your morals or personal beliefs, but you do have to direct the focus of your work. If you wish to create something grand, a work of words which speaks verses as well as volumes, adapt to your work and make it your own. You can not force the world to conform to your way of thinking just because it is convenient. You are a part of a society, and as a member, you have to follow certain standards. That does not exclusively mean you can not bend the rules a bit, you know? However, you have to find a way to keep your eyes on the goal of your writing. Focusing on your personal problems is only going to inhibit you in the long run. Many of your friends are trapped right now; not because they can not function in the real world, but because they let all of their own conflicts seep into the cracks of their everyday work. In this way, everything they weave together is bonded by this same glue of personal experience. Personal experience, do not get me wrong, is an excellent reference. It has to be administered in set amounts, however. You should write more often, and get in the practice of speaking not only on paper. Employ at little speech, now and then. No, not crazy ramblings that you think are relevant. Many times, you will drone on so long that no one is able to understand what you are saying. Sure, everything makes sense in your head. But, remember; the pieces that fall together so nicely in your head are not all their when you express yourself. If you want someone to understand where you are coming from, you need to allow others to see who you are as a whole. Stop trying to hide behind all of your own logic and make better use of your brain. Your whole pattern so far has shown fear, and a need to hide. You do not need to hide, though. Your friends know who you are, and trying to be something you are not will only confuse them. Be true to what you know, learn what you do not, and have the insight to be able to tell the difference. I really hope this helps you in the long run, Michael. Learn to stop belittling yourself. Accept who you are. You have more potential than you know.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Yourself

P.S. - Stop taking short-cuts.

Just another day in my room, sorting out papers and, hopefully, my life.  Something funny happened.  For more than a year, I've kept a poster of Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife on one of my room's walls.  Directly opposite a wall hangs Kingdom Heart II's keyblading attitude nice-guy, Sora.  There characters were always, to me, role models, in a way.  Despite their previous circumstances, they always fougth for justice and light.  Well, okay, Sora didn't have it all that bad. He came from a beach where he hung out with friends and fought with wooden swords all day.  Cloud, considerably more dark, had his mind assaulted, his world turned upside-down, and his only love slain...  yeah, emo, I know.  However, both Sora and Cloud carried that idea of preserving the light for me.
Anyway, the funny thing that happened today came within a simple square of glass.  While in the midst of organizing those papers, I noticed the posters on either side of me but, more importantly, noticed that I was in between both.  Amidst the middle, I glaced up to see my face in the window, and suddenly a thought struck me.  For so long, I have pursued the ideas of these two, Sora and Cloud, wanting to be just like them, maybe even be them at times.  Yet, there I was, right in the middle, as myself.  Just me, Michael. No giant key or sword to impale evil with.  The funny thing is, that was okay. ^_^  Wearing all black and carrying a giant sword is Cloud's job.  Defeating the Heartless with the world's largest lock-pick is Sora's.  How could I live either of their lives and, more importantly, what was so wrong with mine?  I'm not a bad person.  I don't have it all that bad, either.  I've been through trials, but I'm still in one piece, I'm still smart, and I have the power to help this world if I choose.  Michael isn't such a bad character.  Perhaps all I needed was to level up a bit in life to see that.
I'm going to play this game called life as Michael for a while. I have a feeling my stats will climb quickly if I keep my head focused and remember who I am.  I have great friends, love, and ambition. I guess the quest of a hero does not always involve magic spells and mystic weapons.  Maybe being a hero means making a difference with the tools you've got, in the world you exist in, no matter how large or small that difference is.  As long as you try with your heart, no matter how many castles you visit, you'll eventually find the princess. :-p

I made this on a whim while cleaning papers out of my binder.

I have a new song.  Stereoman by Ellegarden.  This band is from Japan, all asian, but listen to it.  If you've never heard it before, you won't believe these guys are Japanese.  The sound and lyrics they put out are top-notch, though.

*edit*  If you can't hear the music, make sure you look in my Xanga's title banner.  You have to press "play" on the little blue player under "Drive forward with your heart." It doesn't start automatically.
